Breed lists go out of date the moment a doodle walks in matted. Size, coat and behaviour are what drive your time, so they drive the price here.
1. Start from a size grid
Each service has a base price, base time and product cost for five sizes: toy under 5 kg, small 5–10 kg, medium 10–20 kg, large 20–35 kg and giant over 35 kg. A full groom starts at $55 and 75 minutes for a toy dog and $130 and 3 hours for a giant. Size by weight beats size by breed: a 30 kg labradoodle and a 30 kg golden retriever take the same table time.
2. Surcharges raise price and time together
Coat condition adds 15% for some knots, 35% for matted and 60% for a severe matting or shave-down. Behaviour adds 10% for nervous, 25% for difficult and 40% when you need a muzzle or a second person. They multiply: a matted, nervous large dog on a full groom is $100 × 1.35 × 1.10 = $148.50. The same multipliers stretch the expected time, so your hourly rate holds.
3. Add-ons on top
Nail trims, teeth, ears, de-shed and flea treatments add a fixed price, minutes and product cost each.
4. Earnings per hour
Earnings per hour = (list price − product cost) ÷ expected hours. If that is under your target, the calculator shows the price that hits it: target × hours + product cost. Use the size table as a starting price list, then charge the surcharges on the day.
Enter every cost and price ex GST. The GST switch shows prices, fees and takings with or without GST; costs and profit always stay ex GST. Set the rate to 0 if you are not registered.
Change your target and GST setting and every number updates. The workbook lets you set your own grid, surcharges and add-ons.
